“The small class sizes and individualized learning approaches offered at Elmira College created the best fit for me to discover and pursue my academic interests.”
Gogi joined the Elmira College community in 2010, leaving his hometown of Batumi near the seaside of Georgia and heading for the United States. Coming from a small town, Gogi left home to attend high school at Guivy Zaladastanishvilli American Academy in the capital city of Tbilsi, Georgia, where his teachers inspired and encouraged his desire to study abroad and gain international experience.
Elmira College’s small class sizes assisted Gogi in adapting to U.S. culture, along with the many amazing friendships he developed during his time here. Although he initially began at Elmira as a Business major, Gogi quickly realized his developing passions and interests in International Studies and Political Science. His coursework provided him with knowledge of international law and heightened his familiarity with international cultures, contributing directly to his current work with the United Nations Association of Georgia, where he works with and advocates for citizens of international countries.
After EC, Gogi traveled to Warsaw, Poland for an internship with the European Academy of International Diplomacy before settling in to his current position, where he has so far highlighted conferences in Slovakia and Hungary as unforgettable experiences. In the next year, he plans to continue his education in Europe by pursuing a master’s degree.
Gogi remembers Term III at EC among his fondest memories of college, and of course, credits all of the friendships from Elmira College for much of his personal and professional development in the past few years. For current and prospective students, Gogi advises staying positive, active and involved on campus and finding your passions and interests, because Elmira’s close-knit community can provide amazing networking potential.
