    Reunion 2017

    Reunion 2017 drew alumni of all ages from across the country for a weekend of activities that provided a chance to reconnect with old friends, reminisce, and make new connections and memories. Alumni representing classes ranging from 1942 to 2017 were represented with the 50th Anniversary Class of 1967.

    Reunion Award Recipients

    Distinguished Achievement Award: Barbara Munder Riordan ’67

    Barbara Munder Riordan ’67 was honored with the 2017 Elmira College Distinguished Achievement Award at Reunion. The Elmira College Alumni Association lauds graduates who have distinguished themselves and Elmira College through exemplary achievements in their professions and communities.

    Barbara, a political science at Elmira College, earned a master’s degree in finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business. Barbara’s career flourished with a position at Institutional Investor magazine, followed closely by the first of many positions at The McGraw-Hill Companies.

    Over the next 23 years, Barbara continued with McGraw-Hill, holding positions such as Vice President of Business Development at BusinessWeek, Senior Vice President of the McGraw-Hill Foundation, and Senior Vice President Communications, Marketing and New Initiatives.

    After leaving McGraw-Hill in 2000, Barbara ventured forward as a consultant and as executive director of the Institutional Investor Institute and The Hedge Fund Institutional Forum. She also served as committee chairman on several Board of Directors, including: Corporate Governance Committee with PetSmart, Inc.; Compensation Committee with Sucampo Pharmaceuticals, Inc.; and the Development Committee for Lighthouse International, a non-profit organization for blind and visually impaired, for which she received the President’s Lifetime Service Award in 2012.

    Barbara lists her 38-year marriage with husband John and raising daughter Alexis as the highlights of her life. Alexis joined her mother at Reunion.

    Distinguished Service Award: Helen Rock Murdock ’67

    Helen Rock Murdock ’67 is an enthusiastic and engaged alumna who has demonstrated outstanding support of the College since Commencement. On the occasion of her 50th Reunion, the Alumni Association recognized her steadfast support of Elmira College with the Distinguished Service Award.

    Helen, a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors, has hosted numerous alumni events, regularly attended others in around the nation, and attended and sponsored on- and off-campus events. She has served as Reunion Chair and is a member of the Alumni Admissions Volunteer Program. While on the Alumni Board, she has served as Octagon Fair chair, working diligently with the college community to plan a well-organized and successful event.

    Additional highlights from the weekend included the annual Parade of Classes, Mountain Day Picnic, 3rd Annual EC Wine Fest, visits to the grounds of Quarry Farm, and lectures by faculty
