First Class Petty Officer, U.S. Navy
“The most amazing thing Elmira has done for me is enable friendships and networking opportunities that will last a lifetime.”
First Class Petty Officer Deanna Dimeo Heisserer has had many memorable experiences while serving in the United States Navy. She has deployed to both Iraq and Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. One of the most interesting moments thus far in Deanna’s career was being present in Cairo, Egypt when President Mubarak was overthrown in January of 2011.
Deanna currently has many duties in her position, including contingency construction and security operations within designated combat zones. She also participates in humanitarian assistance missions and disaster recovery relief. With many responsibilities falling into her lap, Deanna claims that the time management and organizational skills she developed between academics, softball
, and cheerleading
now assist her with prioritizing in her career.
For students preparing for graduate school or for their careers, Deanna suggests that staying focused in the main component to reaching success. “Keep driving forward and keep your eye on the prize,” says Deanna. “Obstacles will appear, but everything happens for a reason!”
